Foundation Activities Past Projects/Programs
The second Irwin M. Marcus, M.D. Lectureship featuring Kerry and Jack Novick, both child, adolescent and adult analysts and founders and directors of the Allen Creed Preschool. This program was co-sponsored by the Jewish Community Center. Present Projects/Programs Consultation program with nursery school directors. This program provides onsite direct observation and discussion of situations arising during the course of everyday school events. We emphasize the understanding and handling of normal situations and the recognition of stressful situations that lead to symptom formation if the child is not helped. This program seeks to enable interventions that will be useful to the child and may be helpful to parents and teachers. The consultants are members of the Institute's faculty. This program has been in effect since 1990. The Foundation and Institute hold monthly meetings with middle school principals and counselors from several schools in the metropolitan area. One of the Foundation's current foci is the financial support of the Studies in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, a psychotherapy training program which admitted it's first class in the fall of 2000. Future Projects/Programs The Foundation and the Institute plan to meet with principals and counselors from several high schools in the metropolitan area. The purpose will be to discuss situations that arise during the course of everyday school events or other student related issues in which the school is seeking assistance in exploring effective interventions which will be helpful to the adolescents, parents and teachers. The possibility
of a therapeutic nursery school is under consideration.
