/ Adolescent Psychoanalytic Training All candidates in the Institute take the courses on Human Development in the first two years. Additional courses in the technique of child and adolescent analysis, psychopathology, literature and continuous case conferences are part of the educational program. The Institute provides the opportunity for integrated training in both adult and child analysis. Applications for the Child Analysis Program will be accepted after a candidate begins the adult curriculum. A candidate may begin the analysis of a child after having an established adult case in supervision, upon the recommendation of the Child Analysis Committee and approval of the Education Committee. In addition to satisfactory completion of the course work in the child analysis curriculum, to graduate in child analysis the candidate is required to conduct a minimum of three analyses of children under supervision, one of which must be that of a latency child. It is desirable that one of the three cases be a prelatency child, and also that the candidate have experience with analyzing a case in some phase of adolescence. It is also desirable that all 3 cases not be of the same sex. In order to successfully complete the child analysis program one of the 3 cases must be a terminated case. Graduation from the child analysis program must either follow graduation from the adult program or be from the combined program. Candidates who are in the combined adult and child programs can graduate in both adult and child analysis with 5 cases; 2 adult cases, which include a male and a female, one going to termination, and 3 child cases, one also going to termination.
