Edward Foulks, MD, Sellars-Polchow Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology (Tenured, Endowed Chair) and Associate Dean at Tulane University School of Medicine, currently is the President-Elect of the Orleans Parish Medical Society, President of The Mental Health Association in Metropolitan New Orleans, Delegate to the Louisiana State Medical Society Assembly, on the Board of Directors of Orleans Parish Medical Society and a Board Member of the Friends Alliance for the Mentally Ill. He also holds national leadership positions including Delegate to the American Medical Association Section on Medical Schools, Board Member of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Washington D.C., Member of the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry as well as other national leadership offices.

Dr. Foulks teaches the course in Freud's Standard Edition for 3rd and 4th year candidates at the New Orleans Psychoanalytic Institute. He graduated from the Philadelphia Psychoanalytic Institute in 1977.

For his teaching, Dr. Foulks has been award the Tulane Medical Student Faculty Teaching Award, in 1998, The Outstanding Teacher Award-Resident Training Program in Psychiatry, Tulane University in 1991 and 1994, and the ASAMA "Golden Apple Award" for distinguished teaching, Hahnemann Medical College, 1973. He also belongs to several Honorary Medical Societies including Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, American College of Psychiatrists (Fellow), American Psychiatric Association, (Life Fellow), and American College of Psychoanalysts (Fellow).

Dr. Foulks has received numerous honors and awards with some of the most recent being the Louisiana Psychiatric Medical Association Psychiatrist-of-the-Year Award, 2001, Orleans Parish Medical Society Leadership Recognition Award, 2000, The American Medical Association House of Delegates Outreach Award, 1999 and 2000.

Dr. Foulks has authored over 80 journal articles and reviews, authored 2 books, co-authored 4 books and written chapters is 23 books with his most recent being "The Cultural Assessment in Clinical Psychiatry," edited by Jacobsen F, Ruiz P, Griffith E, Wintrob R, Lu F, and Foulks E. in Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry published by Wiley Press in 2001.
