Macgregor,
John R., M.D. John Macgregor, M.D. is a training and supervising psychoanalyst at the New Orleans Psychoanalytic Institute. He has been affiliated with the Institute since 1974. He is the past President of the New Orleans Psychoanalytic Society and the current Secretary-Treasurer of the New Orleans Psychoanalytic Institute. Dr. Macgregor received his B.S. from the University of New Orleans and his MD from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 1968. He graduated from the New Orleans Psychoanalytic Institute in Adult Psychoanalysis in 1982 and was certified in Adult Psychoanalysis by the Board on Professional Standards of the American Psychoanalytic Association in 1990. Dr. Macgregor's professional accomplishments include his private practice of general psychiatry and psychoanalysis since 1974; participation on the Board of Directors for the American Psychoanalytic Association from 1992 to the present; participation in the Psychoanalytic Studies at Aspen from 1992 to the present; participation in the Center for Advanced Psychoanalytic Studies at Princeton from 1997 to the present. Dr. Macgregor's publications include "Identification with the Victim," published in 1991 in the Psychoanalytic Quarterly; 1993 Review of Richard C. Friedman's book: Male Homosexuality-A Contemporary Psychoanalytic Viewpoint published in The International Review of Psycho-Analysis. His special areas of interest include psychotherapy and psychoanalysis of adults with neurotic character disorders, depression and anxiety; and psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy with medically ill and/or injured depressed or anxious adults.
